The History Of Witham Cabs

Updated: May 25, 2023

We wanted to share some interesting historical information about cabs in Witham.

Witham is a town in Essex, England. It's located about 30 minutes from London, and it's home to over 20,000 people.

Witham is part of the Witham Valley district which includes other towns like Braintree and Great Dunmow.

The first licensed taxi service began operating in London in 1897; however, it wasn't until 1907 that there were enough cars on the road for people to begin using them regularly.

The history of the taxi industry in Witham, Essex, UK is a long and storied one. While many people think that the first cab was invented by Henry Ford in 1908 (the Model T), it was actually developed by Karl Benz in 1885 as an alternative to horses. He called his new invention "a horseless carriage."
